Sandplay Theraphy

Visual therapy is the therapeutic use of art (drawing, painting, etc.) in the context of the psychotherapist-treated relationship, by people experiencing mental illness, psychological trauma or seeking inner development. It uses visual arts as a means of communication that facilitates emotional expression, combined with classical counseling and psychotherapy, to improve the individual's emotional and mental state.

It is not necessary to have drawing or painting skills to participate in art therapy.

Art is used exclusively as a communication tool between psychotherapist and patient.

Image therapy is suitable for children and adults who experience:

difficulties at home, school or work
anxiety panic attacks or depression
eating disorders
trust issues
post traumatic stress
learning disabilities and/or hyperactivity or
who want to explore their inner self and their lifestyle creatively.

How can it help?

Art therapy expands the communication channel between therapist and client beyond the verbal level and facilitates the expression of feelings through art. Self-expression through art helps to solve internal conflicts and problems, strengthens the self-confidence of the person, allows the person to better manage his behavior and gain self-awareness

The Sessions

In the first session it is important to get a first picture of the problem that brings you to me.We'll talk about the process and I'll be available for questions and concerns.

This is usually followed by 3 to 5 "getting to know" sessions, during which you will get a feel for the process, see how you feel with me (and I with you), so that you can decide if you want to continue.

Individual psychotherapy sessions are usually scheduled once a week, preferably on the same day and time, and last 50 minutes. In the case of couple counseling or therapy, the frequency can be 15 days or even once a month.

The total duration of treatment is different from person to person. It depends on each person's personality and the type of problem.

Sessions can be held in Greek, English or Swedish.

If you need to cancel a session, it is best to do so at least 24 hours before the scheduled appointment.

Of course, a special price list applies to students and the unemployed, upon presentation of a student pass / unemployment card.

What is Sandplay

In the Sandplay method, the client creates representations in a container of sand, using miniatures.Miniatures are selected by the healer from an extensive collection and placed freely in the sand. This process is done silently, in the presence of the therapist who observes without comment or guidance.

The miniatures act as symbols or archetypes, from which the client is free to choose, and form a kind of "alphabet" through which he/she is called upon to express himself. It is very important that the client chooses freely so that what is created in the sandbox is determined as much as possible by his inner world ("let the symbols choose you").

The aim of Sandplayis to help to "surface" ideas, fears, hopes or conflicts that the client is facing, so that they can be realized and discussed in collaboration with the therapist, in a safe environment.

The effectiveness of Sandplaylies in the fact that it provides both therapist and client with something three-dimensional and tangible that they can both work on.It offers an "immediacy" that can be stronger than that of a verbal description, and that can help especially in cases where what is bothering us is difficult to understand and express.

For adults, the temporary 'bypass' of language achieved when expressing oneself through Sandplay is useful because it provides an opportunity to move away from any entrenched ways of thinking about the issues that concern us, and to access our inner world more directly.

For children, the Sandplay method seems attractive, because it is a type of play that the child finds natural. But at the same time, it gives the opportunity to overcome the difficulty the child has in understanding and answering questions about his feelings or explaining how he feels with sufficient precision.Sand Play helps the therapist guide the child through ways of expressing themselves that are friendlier and less stressful than a question-and-answer discussion.
